Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
What do I need?
An iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, mounted where it does not block your view or an airbag. The iPhone companion needs iOS 17 or later. Maps, weather and video need an internet connection: a cellular iPad, or your iPhone's Personal Hotspot.
My iPad has no GPS. How do I get my position and speed?
Wi-Fi-only iPads have no GPS chip. Install DriveDeck on your iPhone and open it: it streams the phone's position and speed to the iPad. Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on on both devices, or join the iPad to the iPhone's Personal Hotspot. Controls › Navigation shows whether the iPad is using the iPhone's GPS.
Can I try it without driving?
Yes. Controls › Quick Controls › Demo drive drives a simulated car round real streets near you, or along your route after you tap Start in Navigation. A DEMO badge shows while it is on. On the iPhone, Road Vision › Settings › Demo video plays a recorded drive instead of the camera.
Which OBD-II adapters work?
Bluetooth LE (Bluetooth 4.0) ELM327 adapters, such as Vgate iCar Pro BLE, vLinker or LELink. Classic Bluetooth 2.x / 3.0 adapters cannot be used by iOS apps. Plug the adapter into the OBD-II port, start the engine, then Controls › OBD-II Adapter › Search. What a car reports differs by make and model; DriveDeck shows only what your car actually sends.
How does Road Vision work, and how far can I trust it?
Put the iPhone in a holder behind the windscreen with the camera facing the road and open DriveDeck. Road Vision recognises cars, people, cyclists and traffic lights on the phone and shows them on the iPad, with a collision warning and chimes for green lights. Set the camera height and the bonnet line in its settings. It is a driver aid, not a safety system: it can miss things and warn late, especially at night, in rain or against the sun, and it never brakes or steers.
Why are Theater, Browser and Arcade locked?
They pause and hide as soon as the car moves and come back when it stops, so the driver is not distracted. Video also stops when you leave Theater or put DriveDeck in the background.
The iPhone gets warm with Road Vision on.
Choose a lower analysis rate (10 or 5 fps) in Road Vision settings, keep the phone out of direct sun, and use the black screen mode: the camera keeps working with the display off. DriveDeck also slows down by itself as the phone warms up.
Does DriveDeck collect my data?
No. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising. See the Privacy Policy for the few requests the app makes to map and weather services.
